Meet handsome Cooper! Cooper is our first official client at Recess4Rover. He is a beautiful dalmatian who happens to be deaf, so we communicate with him via hand signs. goldendoodle! Our man, Milo! Milo is always so excited to see us come over to take him for a walk that he turns around and around- you think he would get dizzy! Milo loves to work for his treats- he wants you to throw them so he can show off his skillzzzz! Meet sweet Lucy! She is a 14-16 year old pug who happens to be in a wheelchair. She loves tooling around in her chair either inside the house or in the back yard. Lucy is awesome!Precious Puppy Love! Puppy Love is a 10 year old Golden Retriever who waits patiently by the front door for us to come pick her up for her walks each day! There is nothing like walking up the sidewalk seeing Puppy Love dancing in front of the door. It makes our day!We love Reese and Allie! Both are labs, and both are great walkers! Reese is a young chocolate lab, and Allie is her older, black lab sister. They both love investigating their neighborhood and walking down the walking trails to Sokol Park.Tired Reese and Allie after a long walk!Our fun Scout! Scout is a beautiful beagle who we can hear barking from down the street because he is so excited about his walk!Look at this precious baby! This is Penny, a young miniature Aussiedoodle who loves her walks and is very enthusiastic and smart! Penny has been through obedience training, and knows how to show her best manners.We love this guy! This is our patient and loving Max! Max is Penny's big brother, and he is always so steadfast and such a wonderful dog! Meet beautiful Rose! She is so well named- she is the color of a rose, and she is so sweet too! She is a young Cavapoo, and she is a champion walker!Meet this fun guy, Rufus! He is an 11 year old mixed breed, oh so friendly, and he sure loves his walks. These guys are Lucy's wonderful brothers, Oscar and Jack!! Oscar and Jack are so loving and want to stay right in our lap when we come over. They love loving and attention! But don't we all?Puggalicous Pugs, Oscar, Jack, and Lucy!This is our wonderful Charlie! Charlie is a 3 year old Goldendoodle who we love so much! He loves "hands on time", then a fun walk around his beautiful neighborhood.His mom may call him Bruce, but we call him Bruce Almighty!! Bruce is about the most laid back doggie around. Bruce is such a special dog to everyone, but especially to his mom because he once belonged to his mom's dad. We love this old guy!Here are our big doggies, Zoey and Dexter! When we first met the family, their mom and dad were concerned because Dexter had always been "aggressively cautious" of men, but David really worked on gaining Dexter's love, and now when we go to their house, Dexter runs straight to David! Zoey is easygoing and loving. We so love both of these doggies!We love taking care of Penny, Punchki, and Ladybug when their mommy goes out of town! They are so sweet!Snickers is such a wonderful 3 year old English bulldog! He loves playing with his blue ball and going on fast walks!Roxie is described by her owners as a purebred mutt!! We love Roxie! She is always so happy and loving!Just look at this beauty! Gracie is a one year old Australian Shepherd. She gets very excited when she sees us coming over for a walk! Gracie loves chasing a frisbee more than anything else!Meet Ringo and Marley! Ringo is an 11 year old min pin, and a very particular man! He likes his food just the right way! But he is oh, so sweet! Marley is a 10 year old dachshund mix who loves belly rubs and fast walks! We love going to stay with them when Momma goes out of town!Get ready for a sweet, shy guy! This is Connor, a daschund/terrier mix! He loves his momma so much, and she has just had her first human baby, so Mom thought it might be a good idea to help him get some of that energy out and bond with other people. We have loved having the opportunity to get to know and love him!Every girl's crazy about a sharp dressed man! Here is definitely the best dressed doggie you have ever seen! This is Dexter, a 2 year old bull terrier (or Dex as his friends call him). He normally has on a different collared or tee shirt each time we walk him. We get a hoot out of Dex's clothes closet- it's bigger than ours!Rowe is an absolutely handsome Boykin Spaniel puppy! Just look deep into those mesmerizing eyes! Rowe is an active, fun loving little guy, and daily walks are just the thing he needs to burn up some of that extra puppy energy!Meet Sophie, a 5 year old Merle Border Collie! She is so talented- she can jump through a hoola hoop on command! Sophie is such a great doggie- we love walking her twice a week!What a fun loving and energetic duo! Gemma and Lyla are 8 month old black lab sisters belonging to UA student, Maddie McAndrews. As a pre-dentistry student, Maddie is very busy with her studies and classes. She wanted these puppies to get in a great walk and time to “take care of business”, so Maddie wisely enlisted our services during the day. Now they are ready for her to play with (and her house is still intact) when she gets out of classes each afternoon. Smart student, Maddie! And what precious girls you have there too!Meet Shadow and Falcon! Shadow is well named; she is such a dark, beautiful, and friendly Australian Shepherd mix! Her brother, Falcon, is a handsome German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees puppy, rescued by parents, Emily and Kevin Covington. Both dogs are so sweet, playful, and love their walks! Mom, Emily, is a professional pet photographer for Wags to Riches Photography, who specializes in photographing not only people’s pets, but rescue dogs and cats at several organizations around town. She helps them look their best so these special pets can find their forever homes! I guess that explains why Shadow’s and Falcon’s pics on this post look so “pawsome”!!Just wait until you meet May, Hope, and Bo! For those of you who don’t know, Recess4Rover will come to your home 3 times a day to take care of your pets while you are away on vacation or on work trips. We were honored to spend several days with these three fun doggies while the Elrod family was on vacation recently. May is the elder stateswoman- a 10 year old beautiful, friendly lab! Even though she suffers from bone cancer in a back leg, she still loves going on slow walks. Hope is a 6 year old sweet and fun lab with the most soulful eyes! Bo is a big, handsome 4 year old black lab mix who loves receiving lots of big hugs and loves to give hugs as well! (But you’d better be seated when big Bo decides to give you one!) We sure hope to see these three again soon! We got kind of attached to them!Meet Bella Suttles! Just take a look at this beautiful 7 year old chocolate cocker! She always makes us smile when we arrive at her house to walk her. Bella comes running when she hears the key in the door. She is such a jewel to walk around her beautiful neighborhood. She walks with her head high and always a smile on that pretty face! We are so thankful to have Bella and her daddy, Larry, on our team.Meet Neenah! What a thing of beauty this 5 year old German Shepherd is! Neenah loves to run around in her huge backyard, always with her orange ball in her mouth. (Doggie parents, Betsy and Robin are huge Vols fans!) When it’s time for her walk, however, Neenah willingly drops that orange ball for her leash. She loves her walks, and her majestic gait is absolutely beautiful! I think we even walk a bit taller while we are with Neenah!Here's Flanders! This fun loving, handsome Great Dane is still just a pup, but Flanders already knows verbal commands and walks beautifully on leash. Parents, Jeff and Katherine, are great examples of how early training, consistency, and even treats make a good puppy a great adult! And of course walks go right along with that! Friendly Flanders knows no stranger, and he is already a popular hit in the neighborhood! We love our big boy!You have got to meet Hobart! Hobart (or Hobie as his friends call him) is the absolutely most precious 2 year old mixed breed you have ever seen! Hobie is such a sweet, lovable, fun loving, and very smart boy. When it is time for his walk, Hobie knows it and goes to sit on his “carpet square” so he can get leashed up. On his walk, Hobie obediently stays right beside us, always looking up for positive reinforcement (or a treat). Hobie is the consummate student, always wanting to obey and please. What an awesome boy!This distinguished gentleman, Olive, is a seasoned 13 year old beagle mix. Mom, Grace Lee, has trained him so well. Olive is a great walker, and his mantra is “Business before pleasure!” Olive is such a well behaved, laid back fella, a real pleaser! We are so thankful for this guy!Angel is well named- she is already the sweetest golden doodle pup at only 3 months old! Soon after Angel came to her new home, Mom, Debbie, had an accident and is now temporarily sporting a leg brace. This makes it extremely difficult for Debbie to walk Angel, and also to allow her to expend all of that fun puppy energy! We are able to come over each day to take Angel for a brisk, fun walk and to really tire her out, which cuts down on the digging, the chewing, and the excessive barking that Mom was beginning to observe. We have loved being a help to Debbie and to Angel, and we sure hope to continue once Debbie is all healed and back to normal. We are getting kind of attached to this girl!Sweet Hyla is small but mighty. A one year old, 10 lb. Jack Russell mix, Hyla is energetic and excited when she first starts her walk, but quickly calms down and walks very nicely when we use a combination of verbal cues, treats (reward), and patience. For some dogs, it’s not how far you walk, it’s how well you walk. Precious Hyla is learning quickly the proper walking technique, and we are so proud of her progress!Dottie is a beautiful 18 month old Schipperke/Corgi mix. Dottie was recently adopted by Pat and Bill Jessup and was really wearing the Jessups out with her unlimited energy. She loves chasing the tennis ball in her yard, but needed something else to expend that energy. Daily, brisk afternoon walks were just the thing! Dottie is an excellent walker, always loving to walk the curbs like a balance beam. Maybe she’s a gymnast at heart!If you love the qualities of intelligence, friendliness, fun, and obedience in a dog, then Jasper is your man! He is indeed the best all around! Jasper is a handsome 5 year old black lab who belongs to new Tuscaloosa resident, Greg Richmond. We have loved spending time playing with and walking Jasper twice a day while Dad gets acclimated to his new job. What a joy!Gus is a very energetic and smart 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier, and Mom, Madeline, has harnessed that energy and intelligence by teaching Gus some pretty impressive tricks! Gus can sit, high five, “come to the middle”, and speak on command! Gus has a favorite toy, his red ball named Baby. Gus could play for hours with Baby, and he insists on bringing Baby on every walk! We don’t mind because he is such a fun dog! Meet Rosie and Daisy! These absolutely precious pups are the girls of Mary and Mort Nelson. Mary and Mort have always believed in adopting rescue pets, and their unconditional love for these two plus their cats is evidence of their devotion for the cause of rescue. Rosie is a beautiful Shar- Pei mix, between 13-15 years old, and is mostly blind and deaf. But that doesn’t stop her! She walks rather confidently in the neighborhood, even though we do carefully guide her around debris left by the curb. Rosie is an inspiration! Daisy is an almost 10 year old terrier mix and loves her walks! She jumps when she sees us coming to the door, and she smiles with her “wiggle butt”! We love it! And we love our two special angels, Rosie and Daisy!
Here's Bentley! Have you ever heard of a schnoodle? Bentley is a 9 year old schnauzer/poodle designer dog! What a perfect little guy he is: Bentley loves to go on long, energetic walks, play ball until one of you gives out, give the best snuggles, and he’s wrapped up in the cutest little body around! Who could ask for more? Thanks to mom, Martica Bacallao, for allowing us to spend time with him!We call these girls "The Fab Five"! Here are Allie Jo, Riley Rose, Bentley Shae, Lucky, and Dixie! (from left to right) These well behaved, loving girls belong to Liz Cook and Joanna Sargent. We are so fortunate to be able to go to their home several times a week, let them out for a fun run, feed them some dinner, and make sure that each one gets lots of “hands on time”! Each pup is so unique: Riley Rose loves to eat and sleep in the bathroom and loves to carry around a house slipper! Bentley Shae is a lover and a player- a lover of all people and a ball and frisbee player!! Allie Jo is the shy one in the bunch, but when she warms up to you, you are friends for life!! Dixie thinks she’s a cat! She acts just like one! Dixie is a rescue who had never played with toys, but now she loves them! And finally there’s Lucky- the one who wants to live in your lap and gives lots of great sloppy kisses! Speaking of lucky- we think we are the lucky ones getting to play with “The Fab Five”!
We love Gabe and Daisy! What a handsome pair of rescue pups! Gabe is an 8 year old Golden Retriever adopted from Adopt A Golden in Birmingham. Gabe loves his toys and his walks! Gabe never meets a stranger and always greets us at the door each time we go over for a walk! Daisy is a precious 8 year old mixed breed who is recovering from an illness that her pet mom, Donna McAllister, knew about and accepted when she adopted Daisy. But Mom didn’t mind at all because she loved Daisy at first sight. Donna is helping Daisy to get better, and soon Daisy will be 100 % healthy! Donna McAllister is a hero to her pups and to us at Recess4Rover!
Sweet Dixie is an almost 2 year old beautiful chocolate lab who belongs to newlyweds, Ashley and Cody Templeton. She is super friendly and never meets a stranger, human or canine! When we walk her each week, we love to pick up her best buddy, Jasper, so they can have some special fun time! Dixie’s parents, Ashley and Cody, unfortunately won’t be staying in Tuscaloosa much longer. They are both cadets in the Air Force ROTC at The University of Alabama, and after their commission in May, they will be stationed in England! We’re going to enjoy being with Dixie as much as we can until then!!Meet Stella, Nashville (or Nash as his friends call him), Rosie, and Luke (left to right)! We at R4R simply call them The Fantastic Four!! And fantastic they are! They are the lucky fur children of Kristen Miller. Stella is an almost seven month old blue Merle Australian Shepherd, the happiest young lady, her joy for life always on display by her wiggle butt! Four month old Nash, a Black-Tri Australian Shepherd, is a true southern Mama’s boy! He’s gonna be a big boy one day, already topping the scales at 40 pounds! Nash is such a fun goofball, who would prefer to nap in your lap (just be ready), and enjoy lots of belly rubs! Rosie is Stella’s littermate, a Red Merle Aussie, labeled “Miss Independent” by her mom, a firecracker for sure, but she also loves to give lots of sweet kisses! Rosie is full of fun personality- you would definitely choose Rosie as your party friend! Luke is the elder statesman, an almost seven year old golden retriever, and he shows the other three how to behave, stay fit, and enjoy life. He still loves to swim and run the trails. Luke is always the true gentleman who lets Mom walk through the door first. Luke senses when someone is feeling down or sick, and he immediately goes over and wants to take care of them. Picture a beautiful white (most of the time), fluffy, happy, energetic ball of fur, and you’ve got Hunter! Hunter is a six month old goldendoodle who belongs to lucky mom, Jennifer Crabtree. He already walks well on leash, knows “Leave it!” (thank Heavens!), “Sit”, and “Stay”. Jennifer has been the perfect new Mom for Hunter, investing in training, daily walks, and lots of toys! We love going over to see this bundle of happiness every day!Meet Murphy and Max!! These two Labradoodles are just the prescription for when you feel a little down! Big brother, Murphy, a 7 year old long haired Labradoodle, is about as laid back and mature as a gentleman can be! He loves his mom and dad, Kim and Brad Bohannon, but he gets so excited when he sees us come through the door because Murphy LOVES his daily walks! Murphy is like that perfect dog to walk- his strut is incredibly precious, he is a disciplined leash walker, and he always “takes care of business”! Little brother, Max, is not even a year yet, and he is so excited about every aspect of life, from walking around and exploring their beautiful neighborhood, to playing with their next door neighbor, Charlie (who we also have the privilege to walk), to meeting new people- Max is a wonderful bundle of enthusiasm and energy, and we love it! We are so excited to call these two our newest buddies!Welcome to the Recess4Rover family, Troy! Have you ever known a pup that smiles all of the time? We have, and his name is Troy! This happy fella is a one year old goldendoodle who belongs to pup parents, Alison and Matthew Hudnall along with children- Jacob and Addison. Ultra friendly, well trained, and of course joyful- Troy is a candidate to be a service dog in the near future. And as intelligent and a wonderful companion as Troy is, we have no doubt that he will be a success!Oliver (or Ollie as his friends call him) is a 4 month old Goldendoodle belonging to the wonderful family of Avi, Preeti, Anushka, snd Anika Nichani. This is the family’s first pet, and they wisely want to ensure that Ollie grows up to be a healthy, disciplined, and happy adult. They have participated in family training sessions and each family member plays an important role in Ollie’s life. We are so excited that they also realize the importance of a fun daily walk and lots of hands on time with Ollie! We love our daily visits with this energetic, preciously sweet, fun loving, happy pup! Ollie is one lucky guy to have been chosen by the Nichani family! We look forward to being a small part of Ollie’s life, watching him grow and mature into the best pup he can be! Fisher was, just a few weeks ago, an unwanted and owner surrendered black lab. I immediately became smitten with this handsome, senior pup when I first met him at our Humane Society of West Alabama doghouse where I volunteer, and I knew that there had to be someone out there who would love him unconditionally for the rest of his days. Little did I know that the special person who would adopt him would be one of our present clients, Sydney Hickman! After seeing Fisher on the WVUA 5:00 news, Sydney fell in love at first sight with this guy! We have been walking Sydney’s precious Boykin Spaniel, Rowe, for over a year, and just two weeks ago, Fisher officially became Rowe’s new brother! We couldn’t be happier for everyone, especially Fisher! He is living life large now, with a couple of days a week spent at Hot Diggity Doggie Day Camp, enjoying walks with us, living in his and Rowe’s own bedroom complete with Dog TV running during the day, even frequent visits to the pool and the beach- Wow, I want to be adopted by Sydney!! We love you, Fisher, and we are so thankful that we can continue to see you each week! Meet Harper!! Have you ever heard of a Rhodesian Ridgeback? We had actually never seen one in person, so we were excited to begin walking this precious puppy! This breed is described as trusting, loyal, intelligent, and confident. Yep, that describes our Harper perfectly! Harper is a “package pup”- so, so sweet and fun, and she loves it when we come over to walk her! Harper enjoys the Taj Mahal of outdoor areas. She has the largest and best equipped enclosed run to both experience the great outdoors of her beautiful country home and to remain safe. Harper loves to run in her big backyard and of course get lots of love from her “people” who include Mom and Dad: Rachel and John Warren, and the human siblings: Alex and Avery. Harper will grow into a wonderful, well adjusted adult pup because of all of the love and attention that she gets to experience. And we at Recess4Rover are so pleased that we get to play a small role in that! Look at Lucy and Frances!! These two precious girls, owned by Gina Miers, are the perfect, easiest dogs to walk. Lucy, a 9 year old black lab mix, is very calm, but really enjoys her walk! She always meets us first at her back gate ready to go! Frances, a 9 year old springer spaniel, is so excited about her walks. Frances had surgery on a back leg in December, but you can’t tell it! She does great everyday on her walks! We love that we get to walk these sweet girls five days each week!! And we love these girls!

Here are Jessie and JJ, two Logotto Romagnolos! Who has heard of the breed Lagotto Romagnolo? 🤷🏻♂️ We hadn’t either, but we have learned that this breed originated in Italy and is translated “water dog”. They are friendly, agile, easily trainable, and are excellent companion pets. They are also used as therapy dogs for people with autism and disabilities. After walking these two beautiful pups, we can see why they are so desirable. Jessie, who is mom to JJ, and JJ are absolutely precious, fun to play with and walk, and so obedient! Dog parents, Karen and Jonathan Walker, researched breeds carefully and made an excellent choice with these two for them and their four sons!
Have you ever met a dog that you knew immediately could be your soul mate? Kirby is that dog! 💙 Kirby is a 7 year old Boxer/German Shepherd rescue belonging to Kate and Korey Harris. Both Kate and Korey have demanding jobs that take them out of town quite often, so from time to time, we get to take care of this sweet boy! Kirby loves his yellow tennis ball, and he loves his walks! And we love him!! We just wish we could see him more often!Here's Tucker!! Tucker is an almost 2 year old English Golden Retriever belonging to Becca and Andrew Lewis. Tucker is that great combination of handsome looks, good behavior, and sheer exuberance! When Tucker hears the key turning in the lock, he sprints to the door to see what adventure awaits him! If you need a morale booster, Tucker is your man! Everyone is his best friend. On his walks, Tucker is the perfect gentleman, always steady, never pulling. He is loving and easy going- a very happy and well adjusted pup! We are so thankful we get to walk this guy!Meet Barney and Milo! What a wonderful experience it was to help take care of these two special boys while their human dad was out of town for a few days! Barney, a 14 year old dachshund, has been well loved all throughout his life by pet parents, Sherry and Sam Hassell. He is so preciously sweet and LOVES treats!! When Sherry and Sam decided to adopt Milo, little did they know what an impact they would have on Milo’s life- his well being, really. Milo walked with a limp, and it was discovered that there were 2 bullets lodged in his upper leg! Milo’s vet determined that it would be best to remove that leg, so Milo became a tripod! He gets along beautifully, and you can tell how grateful Milo is to his pet parents! We loved our short play time with both of them, and we really hope there are more play dates with them in our future! Hey, Waylon!! Named for country music star, Waylon Jennings, this 11 month old border terrier has had anything but a country song life! Doggie Daddy, Rush Crawford, has made sure that everything is wonderful for this lucky pup! And it shows in Waylon’s constantly wagging tail, excitement seeing folks on his walks, and his never ending smile! This is one happy pup!! We love him already!!What a precious pair of pups! Grand dame, Sophie, is a 17 year old long hair chihuahua. Despite her age, sweet Sophie gets along quite well. She has several favorite spots at her house: her cozy bed (which is where she usually is found when we first come over), walking around her beautiful backyard pool outside in the sun, and probably her favorite spot- on anyone’s lap petting her! Bella is the perfect helpmate for Sophie. She is probably what keeps Sophie young at heart! Bella, a 6 year old Yorkie, always meets us at the door ready for some attention and love! Bella is a bit shy at first meeting, but quickly warms up and becomes your best friend! We love how fun, friendly, and sweet this girl is! We are so happy that Sophie and Bella’s parents, Tracy and Steve Welch, chose us for their pups’ midday care!Baloo, named for the lovable bear from Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”, is one of the cutest, friendliest little Aussie Doodles you have ever seen. Baloo came to the family of Amy and Greg Bott at the ripe old age of 8 weeks, and his family knew exactly what to do to get him started off on the right foot. Greg had raised and trained other dogs, so he wanted Baloo to get the best beginning on crate training, being socialized, and leash walking. We have loved going over during the day and playing with this cutie, feeding him his midday meal, and just observing his enthusiasm for life! We look forward to watching Baloo grow into the great adult we know he will become!Here are two of the cutest puppies, Scottie and Barkley, 2 sweet guys belong to the wonderful family of Jenny and David Pass and their 2 children. Scottie and Barkley are Scottish Terrier brothers born on June 1, 2019. They are of course full of energy and fun and even a bit of mischief! It’s been so much fun to see the dynamics of new siblings joining the family! We love playing in the grass with Scottie and Barkley. It is indeed the best of all worlds!!Meet Buzz, a very handsome 5 year old English Golden Retriever, big brother to puppies, Scottie and Barkley. He’s still not sure what is happening in his family with these 2 new puppies! Scottie and Barkley absolutely love Buzz, and they want to “play” with him all the time. It’s been so much fun to see the dynamics of new siblings joining the family! Buzz is such a good sport, but from time to time has to give a bit of a warning, and the pups know when they’ve overstayed their welcome! We love going over and giving Buzz a special walk treat, the reward he gets for being such a patient big brother!! Here's Mick and Tallulah!! What a fun couple of pups! Mick is the big brother, a terrier mix rescued many years ago by Sonja and Bill Griffith. Mick takes a little while to get to know someone new, but that’s alright! When he does get to know you, Mick becomes your best friend! Little sister, Tallulah, a Golden Retriever puppy, becomes your best friend immediately!! She gives lots of great kisses, and is such a fun puppy! Tallulah recently completed Puppy Kindergarten, and is well on her way to becoming a happy adult! We love it when we get the call to come over and play with them! Hannah is the super cute, fun, intelligent, lively (and every other positive adjective you can think of) golden retriever who belongs to Kristen Miller. We have a wonderful, long history with Kristen’s pups, having walked her others: Stella, Rosie, and Luke some time now and Kristen’s brother, Landon’s golden: the late, great Puppy Love! We are so happy to be adding Miss Hannah to the lineup! Hannah is so well behaved! Of course she is- Mom, Kristen operates Paws Up Training! Hannah serves as demonstration dog in many of their classes, and she is the official greeter wherever she goes! We love her enthusiasm, her charm, and her wonderful wet kisses!We are so proud to introduce everyone to Hank and William! Have you ever seen two more stately and handsome spaniels? Hank and William belong to Rena and Clint McEntyre, and they are the friendliest and most fun pups. Walking and being with them is one of the highlights of our week. We love these guys!Take a look at beautiful Mollie!! This 3 year old King Cavalier Spaniel is about the sweetest and most fun pup we know! Mollie is always waiting patiently at the door for her walks, and when she sees us, her whole body wiggles! Mom, Peggy Register, says that when she tells Mollie we’re headed her way on the mornings of her walks, Mollie gets so excited that she runs around the house, then heads to her special place to wait until she sees the car pull up. On our walks, Mollie is so social that she stops walking to “wait and see” if the cars passing by stop to speak to her. Sadly most do not, but Mollie keeps trying! So if you see us walking down her street in North River, please stop, roll down your window, and say hi! You would make this sweet pup’s day!Meet Ducky! (or shall I say "Lucky Ducky"?) About a month ago, Ducky (who used to be called Robin) was living at the Humane Society of West Alabama's doghouse, had just finished up about 3 months of heartworm treatment, and had been on strict crate rest because of his disease. When Recess4Rover client, Amy Trice, heard about him and actually got to meet him- she fell head over heels in love with this old guy! Living with Amy is like hitting the jackpot for sure! Ducky gets so much love from Amy and his siblings, Ruby and Rufus, and he gets daily walks with Recess4Rover! So now you can see why we refer to him as "Lucky Ducky"! We love you, Ducky! Ellie is a 7 year old Parson Russell Terrier belonging to Caroline and Bill Carter. She is a bit shy and skittish, but once that leash goes on, Ellie is a fun, spunky, little lady! Ellie is a treat lover, so we are sure to have plenty on hand each time we visit! Here's to many walks in the future with Ellie loaded with lots of treats!!We want to introduce to everyone this most handsome golden retriever! Sam is still a puppy (believe it or not), and he belongs to long time client, Landon Miller. Landon's other golden, Puppy Love, passed away last year, and we miss her so much, but we are so thankful to now have Sam to walk every day! Sam is such a friendly, fun, and energetic walking buddy. He never meets a stranger and has a big ole smile for all he meets. We look forward to many long walks with our new buddy! We are so excited to introduce everyone to a big blessing to us and to her mom, Grace Lee. Elsa is around 5 years old, but still acts like a puppy. She is a rescue pup who was adopted by Grace officially on Oct. 3. Mom has been a valued client of R4R for a couple of years, but tragically lost pup, Olive, a few months ago. As we dog lovers know, a new dog never takes the place of our former dog in our heart; our heart simply grows to make room for a new one to love. We think Olive would approve!Take a look at these two happy girls, Mai and Zuzu! These 2 precious pups belong to Libby and Clark Troyer, and we have loved getting to know them over the past month. Zuzu is a young Lab pup, and loves to go on long, energetic walks. We are actually working on Zuzu not walking herself as she takes the leash in her mouth as we walk. Guess we’re not going fast enough for her! 🤣 Big sister, Mai, is a 9 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and prefers less energetic walks- she’s a scenery type of gal! These two beautiful white labs are much loved by Kevin Hayes. Kevin is a lot like most of us dog lovers- he would do ANYTHING for his girls! As much as these girls look alike, they couldn’t be more different in behavior. Lucy is 10 1/2 years old, very settled, calm, and easy going. She prefers to go out in the back yard over going for a walk around the neighborhood. Eliie, on the other hand, is 1 1/2, very excited, energetic, and loves her walks!! One way they are similar is that they both love treats, and would do about anything to get one! We love these girls already, and we are so thankful to have them in our R4R fam! These two miniature goldendoodle sibling puppies can make even the most surly curmudgeon smile, even laugh out loud! As lifelong Auburn fans, pawrents, Leisa and Mike DeVenny, named these cuties to honor their beloved university. (Shug for famous coach Shug Jordan and Maggie for the famous Toomer’s Corner’s Magnolia Drive) Even though Maggie and Shug are from the same litter, they couldn’t be more different. Maggie is the enthusiastic, energetic, leaf chasing pup. Leisa calls her their “ADHD FOMO child”! 😂 Her recent enthusiasm with a snake in the backyard resulted in an overnight stay at EmergiPet. Yikes!! Shug, on the other hand, is a bit calmer and more focused on our walks. Leisa calls Shug their “focused leaner”. He has this precious way of leaning on things: the walls, a couch, but the sweetest thing he does is to lean on his mom and dad, and of course- us too! This boy loves to cuddle!! Sawyer is a 2 1/2 year old mini goldendoodle belonging to Sydney and Tim Gilliam. Such a fun pup, when he hears us coming in the house, he runs down the hall barking with excitement. Sawyer is a wonderful leash walker; the only problem is that he doesn’t want to go back home. And we’re ok with that!Meet Chewy! This is the luckiest boy because he has been adopted into the best family! R4R client, Sydney Hickman, found this little boy covered with fleas and ticks wandering the streets, and she worked so hard trying to find his owner. Sydney immediately took him to her vet to scan for a microchip and for a checkup, and besides the hair infestation, it was discovered that poor Chewy had heartworm disease, which is deadly if not treated. Sydney has committed to seeing Chewy through this health crisis, and she has also committed to providing Chewy his forever home! Big brothers, Rowe and Fisher, have welcomed Chewy unconditionally and share their toys and treats (most of the time)! We are so excited to walk Chewy several times a week- he is a great leash walker, and is always the first one to the front door when we get there! We are so excited to be able to play with and walk these two pretty and precious pups whenever called on! Sadie is a 9 year old black goldendoodle who definitely does not show her age, and Biscuit is a 6 year old Cavachon who is the life of the party! Sadie and Biscuit belong to Regina and Greg Byrne, and they truly enjoy life on beautiful Lake Tuscaloosa. However Sadie prefers their pool over the lake, and goes for a swim whenever she is outside. 😂 Both dogs are so well behaved, especially on nice long walks around their neighborhood where they love to sniff and investigate who’s been there. We so enjoyed caring for her as Lynne and Mike took a much needed trip out of town recently. A couple of weeks ago, we had the wonderful opportunity to go over several times a day for a few days to play with, feed, and love on these two brothers, Blackie and 4Bie! Blackie is a 3 year old lab mix who wandered onto the farm property of Angela and Clay Hudson. He was a hot mess, unhealthy and covered in ticks and fleas. Angela and Clay loved him and cared for him all the way back to good health. There’s just something special about rescue dogs, am I right? 4Bie came to them soon after, a fun, loving Lagotto Romaglolo who is as easy going as he is cute! Blackie loves to chase a ball, and he will travel as far as you throw it! Believe me, we found that out! They both are just the best, the sweetest, and most fun pups there could be! Now you know! Kobe is named after the iconic NBA player, Kobe Bryant. Oh how we love this boy! Kobe is a spectacular leash walker, loves to be loved on, and is so well mannered. Joshie is an older poodle mix that I met a few years ago when he came into our care at The Humane Society of West Alabama. I was his momma’s adoption counselor. If you only knew what this cutie looked like at that time, you would not recognize him today. Mom, Janna Leigh, saw Joshie at his worst, hair matted and long, the saddest and most scared pup- he was pitiful! But Janna saw past what he looked and acted like, and realized what he could become. Today, Joshie is a happy, trusting, and loving pup, and we love going over and just spending lots of hands on time with this precious one. We are so honored to be a part of his family, and he is a part of our family as well. Meet Brody! Brody is a 3 year old Shih Tzu who loves life and all that is in it! He is especially blessed to have loving parents who looked beyond his disability (Jax has retinal atrophy and cataracts) and realized what a sweet boy he is. Jax still loves playing fetch and going for walks. He has a keen sense of smell, and he's incredibly trusting. We’re so excited to be walking this good boy because, even at his older age, he has never been walked before. Leash training and loads of patience were the two basic ingredients for our Buster at first. Add to that the fact that Buster is a real momma’s boy and can’t stand to be out of eye shot of her, and you understand why patience was the absolute main ingredient! 😝 “Come on, Buster! One. More. Most of the time our pups are so excited and so ready to walk, they greet us at the door with tails wagging and anticipation in their eyes. Some of the time we meet a new pup who has fear or trust issues, and it takes a little longer for them to know that we are their friend, their helper, and their fun walk buddy. Hatch is one of those. Hatch is a one year old, gorgeous spaniel mix. Men are not his favorite, especially new men. His walker, Dave, has taken the time to gain Hatch’s trust by laying on the floor with him, gently petting him, speaking quietly to him, and of course there might be treats involved as well. Sami is a beautiful 4 year old golden retriever, and Remi is a 6 year old good looking German short hair pointer. Both girls get so excited when we come over to walk them! Their energy level is through the roof! We have the honor of transporting them home every day from Hot Diggity Doggie Camp, and it is a wild ride indeed! Newman is a handsome silver lab who can’t control his “licker”, so poor Dave keeps a towel in the car just to dry his face after dropping them off at home! 💦 Bean is an adorable chocolate lab who is nicknamed “Mr. Calm”, so he obviously gets to ride home in the front seat. His cute vice is gently placing one paw on the dashboard every time the brakes are applied! 🐾 Yeah, we got it, Bean- drive safely! Sully, a beautiful golden retriever, is super energetic, and has become quite the expert at somehow unbuckling her seatbelt, so Dave has had to go the extra mile by wrapping her leash securely around the headrest! 😬 Even though each of these 3 darlings has their own distinct personality, we just adore how much they love each other and how much fun they are! Thanks to mom, Mary Roberts, for allowing us to spend some fun time daily with these 3! They’re a hoot!Meet Lillie and Lulu! Both rescues belonging to Maureen and Ed Shotts, Lillie is a 4 year old beagle mix, and Lulu is a year old hound mix. Dave has been walking Lillie and Lulu for several months now. They really deserve a trophy for Most Improved Walkers! The first few times when they walked Dave, I mean when Dave walked them- he had to stop and untie himself at least twice per block. Lulu was especially talented — she earned a merit badge for knot-tying! And it took Lillie a while to figure out the cause-and-effect relationship between lunging and choking -— but she finally got it! And Dave just loves the joyful noise these two girls make from inside their house every time he steps out of his car! It’s so nice to be loved! 🥰🥰Welcome to the Recess4Rover family (even if it was only for a short time), Vic!! This lucky dog was found on the Walker County farm property of Sabrina Keating, a long time client and good friend of R4R. Vic was in terrible shape, having been bitten by a poisonous snake and was even missing a part of her tongue. Sabrina did her best to find the owners, but to no avail. She brought Vic back home to Tuscaloosa, got her some much needed vet care, began to help her gain trust again in the human race, and patiently began the training process. Vic was an excellent student showing great potential and promise, and she was determined to live and succeed. Vic’s enthusiasm for life was contagious. Sabrina named her after Queen Victoria, a strong and courageous leader. 👑 And Vic did show victory overcoming so much! Eventually Sabrina found the best adopter in a patient, kind, and dog loving friend who had recently lost his long time pet. What a story, and what a victory! We were very blessed to be a small part of Vic’s life, and we consider that a victory as well! Now that the essentials are out of the way, let me tell you how incredible this little boy is!! 🩵 When I first enter his apartment, Gus immediately comes to me and lays down for his belly rub- Gus’ absolute favorite (well, besides his treats)! Gus is so loving- we spend some great hands on time on the couch, then we go for a walk around his building, then it’s back inside for more hands on time. Gus knows what his walks are for, and he is pretty quick to oblige. 😂 And let me just say: You have never seen puppy dog eyes like Gus’ puppy dog eyes! He makes me swoon each time I am with him! 🥰 It’s easy to say that I love each and every day I get to see him! Such a love bug! Welcome to the Recess4Rover family, Abbi, Jack, and Molly! These 3 siblings are so full of energy that it usually takes Dave a full five minutes just to get their harnesses on- not that they are intentionally resisting- they’re just so excited for their walks! First there’s Abbi, an 8-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever; then there’s Jack, a Golden Doodle who will attempt to eat the strangest things (an old banana peel???), and finally, there’s Molly, a Golden Retriever who greets Dave 5 days a week like she hasn’t seen him in a year. 90% of the time, they walk well together- the other 10% they are either going in 3 very different directions OR pulling in unison toward one of the several cats in their neighborhood. Today we welcome to the Recess4Rover family, Hamilton Gibbs, but his friends call him Hammy! Hammy is a 2 year old golden retriever who belongs to Karen and Wes Hamby. We have honestly never seen this happy boy without a big ole smile on his face, even when walking in the rain! (For proof, see the second picture!) Hammy loves to meet his neighbors, and we at Recess4Rover vote Hamilton Gibbs MVP (Most Valuable Pup) of his neighborhood!Welcome to the Recess4Rover family, Ace!! 🐾 This young buck is a golden retriever mix who belongs to Ava and Stephen Eure. He is such a fun guy, full of energy and excitement (as he should be)! Ace loves him a good game of fetch. As a matter of fact, Ace demanded that his picture include his favorite thing in the whole world —- his bouncy ball! I know that other dogs THINK they enjoy a good game of fetch, but Ace takes it to the next level! If only Dave could train him to RELEASE the ball!Today we want to spotlight two of the cutest, smallest, and sweetest little pupsters we have, Twyla and Tinkerbelle! Twyla is an 8 year old Yorkie, and Tinkerbelle is a 10 year old Chihuahua/Chinese Crested mix, and both are rescues who belong to Suzanne Horsley! Their walker, Dave, loves to answer the call to stay with them when Mom goes on out of town trips. He says they are both such sweethearts, and their three favorite things are walks, treats, and cuddles, but maybe not in that order. Heading out of town anytime soon, Professor Horsley?? We miss our babies! We were sure hoping that Tongue Out Tuesdays were a thing of the past, but nooooo!! Here’s Audrey’s beautiful, long, hot tongue because today was beautiful, long, and hot as well! Thanks to sweet mom, Milla Green, for allowing us to walk her sweet girl!Hands down….. or tongues down- this week’s Tongue Out Tuesday winner has got to be COOKIE!! This cute 7 year old yorkie mix belongs to Angie and Ron McKeefery, and we think she’s absolutely perfect!Welcome to the Recess4Rover family, Duke, Nico, and Lucy! (left to right) These three are the newest clients who get to be walked by Dave. Duke is a 7 year old German Short- haired Pointer. Nico is a wonderful Shepherd mix puppy. Lucy is a 5 year old black Lab. They each have very distinct personalities, but they all love to explore new territory! And they are all super sweet! Thanks to Mama, Sami Fultz, for letting us walk them!!We are so excited to introduce 2 of our newest pups, Monty and Cookie! These precious pups belong to Angie and Ron McKeefery, and boy are they funny! Monty, the big guy, gets insanely jealous when Dave pays too much (meaning “any”) attention to Cookie! So Dave has to be really sneaky to distract him to give equal attention and love to Cookie! They both are great leash walkers, and we love them already! Meet Buster! When we started Recess4Rover 7 years ago, my prayer was that we would be a true blessing to the dogs and their families we serve. This is one of those stories where what we do day in and day out means so much more than just dog walking. Dave Truhett began walking Buster because the owner was not able to due to some physical and other issues that prevented her from doing that. Having lived a sedentary life hardly ever separated from his mom, Buster was definitely not excited about his daily walks with Dave….. at first. I’ll let Dave take it from here: “Buster is such a mama’s boy that he basically refuses to walk unless he’s walking toward home. So after at least 6 months of pulling and prodding him, which neither he nor I enjoyed, I FINALLY came up with Plan B! Now Buster happily gets in my car for a 5 or 6 block ride, then we have a pleasant walk back to mama.” We pride ourselves on going the extra mile (literally sometimes), and looking at Buster’s face, it has definitely worked! Buster’s mom is so very thankful that her boy is getting the exercise he needs and the love he deserves, thanks to Dave’s willingness to go the extra mile!
